Ok, this may seem a little petty to you, but I am really sick and tired of picking up a phone and hear the request: “Please press 1 to continue in English and press 2 for Spanish.” Here are my number 1 and 2 on this one. I am residing in the United States of America; so far our national language is English. Yes, we are founded of a many people, but for some reason nobody besides the Mexicans seem to think they have to change the national language.
I am from Germany; I learned the language of my chosen country. It is proper to adept to the country you wish to live in. Two, I am sick and tired of having to cow tow to those that come over here and don’t even try to become part of this country. No I am not speaking of the immigration process, that is a whole new debate, but of trying to function in a meaningful way. If you are here, it should be a rule that you try to speak the language, not make others tip toe around you. You are a guest here! A GUEST!!!!! Until you learn to become part of this great family we once called the United States of America that is all you ever will be. And you know what happens to guests? They overstay their welcome when they are not polite and enjoyable. I would say I know a few millions that now have overstayed their welcome.
As for the good hearted Americans, sorry IMP you hear this everyday. Try taking the blinders off please. We are not doing anyone a favor by nursing our bleeding hearts. This was once the greatest country in the world, the word America once brought awe and fierce pride into the hearts of nations and people alike. We were looked upon with respect. Now, let’s face it we have become such little wuzzes that we are the laughingstock of the Global Nation. Sure we still have the super ego, but now we are just like any other Babysitter. They smile into our faces and behind our backs they make fun of us. Maybe it is time to dust of the old whopping stick and give a good old fashioned ass whopping to those that can not go by our rules.
Ok that is enough out of me, Imp you have the floor.

Wow! That was a little harsh, but eh, it's true. I enjoy being in this country and meeting people from all over. Hell, I have a mom from Germany, A friend from Germany as well an a few friends from Spanish background. (Sorry I don't know exactly where. And if you know that I am talking about you Mimi, sorry if I sadden you by not knowing exactly where your background comes from.) Anyways, I have friends that know a few foreign languages and have parents or are from a foreign country. They all speak English when speaking to me because that is all I know. Some even try to teach me a little of their language for fun, but they speak English perfectly. I don't care if you speak Spanish or whatever foreign language you speak, but please don't come up to me, start rapidly speaking in that language, and get pissed when I tell you I don't understand. I don't know but I think Yankee English (I think that’s what it's called) was at one point spoken by every American or visitor to the U.S. I believe that if you are going to visit a country try to learn the language. I know that I want to go to Germany one of these days. Therefore, I am going to learn the language. It's not that hard to learn a language. Most of the time when a person sees you trying to learn the language, they will be a lot nicer to you, then when you walk up and speak to them in you home language. I know this sounds like a lesson or like I am preaching, but I don't mean to sound that way. And, no, before some of you get that idea in your heads, I am not prejudice.
Well Imp, that is where you and I differ. I am prejudice against pure and simple rudeness and to me that is what this is. I don't expect a tourist to speak english, but eh most of them do. I don't expect you to be perfect at it, but you need to at least try. And if you fly your flag, I better see ours, The UNITED STATES one flying proudly next to it.
Pride in ones country is great, but if it was such a wonderful place to be and it is the best thing in the world why are you running away from it?
I came here to follow my then husband. That was my reason. I had kids that are American and I stayed to give them their own country. Yes, Germany is lovely and I have a lot of german outlooks, but I will be damned to hell and back, if I disrespect my home country * here meaning the country I made my home in* by flapping them in the face daily and refuse to speak the language of those that feed us, give us jobs, protect us and welcomed us into their midst.
As Imp said, if you even try you will be looked upon a lot kinder, but they don't even try. No, I have to learn yet another language to please whom exactly?
Ironically, I was forced to learn english in school in the country I come from because the allied forces made the agreement. Then I come here and we pussy foot with a bunch of ....
Anyway, taking a deep breath here.
This country is made up of all sorts of nationalities, but it is the mexicans that seem to get eveything. Which will bring me to my next subject in the next post...
Immigration! Did you know that there are different Rules for mexicans then for Europeans? Yup folks this will be educational for all of you.
In the meantime. If you are in the United States, then raise your head high and show some pride in this fantastic country. I don't care if you like the government, I am not to happy with a lot of the things they do either, but I love this country and the real people living in it. Go America!!!!!
Now can we please become the land of the proud and the free again?
